Saxophonist Janina Lorenci and percussionist Lola Mlačnik met each other while studying at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet Ljubljana in 2010 and later formed Duo Ikt. when reunited at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
Their mentors include one of the leading saxophone and percussion performers and teachers today, such as Arno Bornkamp, Arnold Marinissen, Rachel Xi Zhang, Richard Jansen, Willem van Merwijk and Ramon Lormans. Besides the regular lessons with these professors, the duo also attended masterclasses by Nancy Zeltsman (Berklee College of Music, Boston, USA), Jean-Denis Michat (Conservatory of Lyon, France), Kyle Horch (Royal College of Music London, UK).
The duo regularly performs in recitals and concerts around Europe and overseas. They have performed at Grachten Festival, Holland Festival in the Netherlands, Harmos festival in Portugal, important halls in Slovenia such as the Slovenian Philharmonic and the Ljubljana Castle as well as Slovenian Embassy in Washington DC and Manhattan School Of Music in New York City.
Duo Ikt. mostly performs their own arrangements and works written for them as they are very active in commissioning new pieces for percussion and saxophone.
Both members of the duo are winners of many international competitions. In April of 2016 they were one of the golden finalists and winners of the international competition Svirel in Slovenia, in May that same year they were the absolute winners in the category of chamber music achieving 100/100 points and being awarded the Paolo Serrao Special Prize at the International Competition in Italy. In the 2016/17 season they were selected to perform a series of concerts on a national tour organized by Jeunesses Musicales Slovenia. In 2018 Duo Ikt. was one of the finalists and won the audience prize at the Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Concours, representing the best musicians studying at music conservatories across the Netherlands.
