Saxophonist Janina Lorenci and percussionist Lola Mlačnik met each other while studying at the Conservatory of Music and Ballet Ljubljana in 2010 and later formed Duo Ikt. when reunited at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

Their mentors include one of the leading saxophone and percussion performers and teachers today, such as Arno Bornkamp, Arnold Marinissen, Rachel Xi Zhang, Richard Jansen, Willem van Merwijk and Ramon Lormans.  Besides the regular lessons with these professors, the duo also attended masterclasses by Nancy Zeltsman (Berklee College of Music, Boston, USA), Jean-Denis Michat (Conservatory of Lyon, France), Kyle Horch (Royal College of Music London, UK). 


The duo regularly performs in recitals and concerts around Europe and overseas. They have performed at Grachten Festival, Holland Festival in the Netherlands, Harmos festival in Portugal, important halls in Slovenia such as the Slovenian Philharmonic and the Ljubljana Castle as well as Slovenian Embassy in Washington DC and Manhattan School Of Music in New York City.

Duo Ikt. mostly performs their own arrangements and works written for them as they are very active in commissioning new pieces for percussion and saxophone.


Both members of the duo are winners of many international competitions. In April of 2016 they were one of the golden finalists and winners of the international competition Svirel in Slovenia, in May that same year they were the absolute winners in the category of chamber music achieving 100/100 points and being awarded the Paolo Serrao Special Prize at the International Competition in Italy. In the 2016/17 season they were selected to perform a series of concerts on a national tour organized by Jeunesses Musicales Slovenia. In 2018 Duo Ikt. was one of the finalists and won the audience prize at the Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Concours, representing the best musicians studying at music conservatories across the Netherlands.

Lola Mlačnik

Lola Mlačnik was born in Ljubljana in 1994. After completing her studies at the Conservatory in Ljubljana she continued her studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam where she completed her bachelor's and masters' degrees in classical percussion under the mentorship of Nick Woud, Tomohiro Ando, Mark Braafhart, Bence Major, Peter Prommel, Arnold Marinissen, Ramon Lormans, Rachel Xi Zhang, Richard Jansen and guest professor Nancy Zeltsman, specialising in timpani and chamber music in her master's. She is currently an Artist Diploma candidate at the Boston Conservatory of Berklee under the tutelage of Nancy Zeltsman, Sam Solomon, Doug Perkins and Kyle Brightwell. 


Outside of her studies she has attended masterclasses by some of the most renowned percussionists and pedagogues and has performed around Europe and the USA. She is also a winner of many national and international competitions, most notably as a member of Duo Ikt., where she was a semi-finalist at M-Prize competition in Michigan and public prize winner at the Grachtenfestival Conservatorium Concours amongst others.


Lola is a very active performer and regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician on festivals and events around Europe such as Holland Festival and Grachten Festival (the Netherlands), Harmos Festival (Portugal) and GM Oder (Slovenia) in halls such as Kleinezaal of Concertgebouw, Casa da Musica in Porto and the Slovenian Philharmonic Hall. She is also an active orchestral musician having performed as substitute timpanist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and has collaborated multiple times as percussionist with the Orchestra of the 18th Century among others.


For her bachelor studies and master studies, she was kindly supported with a scholarship from the Municipality of Ljubljana.

Janina Lorenci

Janina Lorenci, started playing the saxophone at the age of 8 in her native Slovenia.

She studied at The Conservatory of dance and ballet Ljubljana in Slovenia, Conservatoire de Versailles in France, Conservatorium van Amsterdam in The Netherlands and Manhattan School Of Music in New York City, USA with Matjaž Drevenšek, Vincent David, Arno Bornkamp and Paul Cohen respectively.

She is an award winner of many national and international competitions since the early stages of her musical development as a soloist or chamber musician. She was awarded the title of ''laureat'' in 3 consequent editions at the International Woodwind Competition in Požarevac, Serbia, first prize at the International Competition Marco Fiorindo in Italy, first place at the International Chamber Music Competition in Treviso, Italy with a saxophone quartet as well as a Golden Medal in the Slovenian National Competition TEMSIG with the same chamber music group. She was selected as the best saxophone player at the International Woodwind Competition EMONA (European Musicians ON Air) in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Her most recent awards were achieved mostly with her percussion duo partner Lola Mlačnik.

Janina regularly performs as a soloist, in a duo with percussion, larger ensembles, woodwind bands and philharmonic orchestras. Most recent events include a concert in Monaco's opera house with a Philharmonic Orchestra of Monte Carlo with guests including Lang Lang, Jammie Cullum and Shirley Bassey, solo recital in New York City, concert with MSM Philharmonic Orchestra, etc. 

She is often selected by Slovenian Music Society to give solo and chamber music recitals  and concert tours across Slovenia.

She regularly improves her saxophone skills and musicianship in many masterclasses across Europe and overseas.
